The accompanying text reads: <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"quoted-stuff\">\u6625\u304b\u3089\u521d\u590f\u306b\u304b\u3051\u3066\u54b2\u304f\u3001\u80cc\u306e\u9ad8\u3044\u690d\u7269\u3067\u3059\u3002\u305d\u306e\u82f1\u540d\u306f\u300c\u7adc\u306e\u53e3\u300d\u3068\u3044\u3046\u610f\u5473\u304c\u3042\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002\u3066\u3093\u3092\u3064\u306a\u3050\u3068\u73fe\u308c\u308b\u8a00\u8449\u306f\u3069\u308c\u3067\u3057\u3087\u3046\u304b\uff1f<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>It\u2019s a plant that grows tall and blooms between spring and the beginning of summer. It\u2019s English name has the meaning \u201cdragon\u2019s mouth.\u201d Will you connect the dots and see which word will appear?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The following three possibilities are given:<\/p>\n<p>A. \u77f3\u6960\u82b1 (stone \/ camphor tree \/ flower) = Rhododendron<br \/>\nB. \u5973\u90ce\u82b1 (woman \/ son \/ flower) = Yellow Patrinia<br \/>\nC. \u91d1\u9b5a\u8349 (gold \/ fish \/ grass) = Snapdragon<\/p>\n<p>The title hints at the correct answer (\"swimming\"), as does the background image behind the connect-the-dot section.  The answer for this one is C. \u91d1\u9b5a\u8349<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/encyclopaedia-fortuita.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/917AB025-9291-49D4-A585-3D0A243C0135-scaled.jpeg?resize=788%2C1051&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"788\" height=\"1051\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-881\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m clearly not the target demographic for this magazine (the one advertisement is for a large-print book helping 60-year-olds figure out smartphones), but I find the puzzles very relaxing and it\u2019s fun looking up the compounds and poetic expressions I don\u2019t know.  If one were in Japan, one could submit completed answer sheets in to be entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes (ranging from convenience store giftcards up to a Nintendo Switch Lite).  For those of us not in Japan, though, it adds another source for Kanji recognition work in a low-stress package.  Most of the puzzles seem to have around 150-200 dots, although there are a couple of fold-out puzzles with 400 dots each.
